Cadenhead's Whisky Edinburgh

In a city renowned for its whisky culture, there are few purveyors of the amber nectar more knowledgeable than Cadenhead’s. The first thing they always say is, “it’s what is inside the bottle that counts.” Located on the Canongate, just down from the Royal Mile, this whisky emporium serves up golden malts and blends of every shade and subtlety imaginable. As well as all stocking an array of Scotland’s most famous whiskies, there are many rarer brands to be admired, as well as a selection of vintage malts that most of us can only dream of tasting.  Ably catering for the needs of tourists and locals alike, Cadenhead’s bespoke service enables every customer to find the right malt for the right occasion. Although few shops can be considered to be more typically Scottish than Cadenhead’s, they do find space amidst all the home-distilled talent for a selection of international offerings from as far afield as New Zealand.  It’s the indigenous whisky that most flock here for however.  With distillery names such as Auchentoshan and Balmenach represented here, there’s certainly no doubting the whisky’s provenance.

Second visit after about 2.5 years and Josh and his colleagues could not have been more gracious and nice again. Was sad to see the casks no longer at the store but not to worry, there’s still plenty to like about the store and it’s offerings. Bought two bottles to take home and Cadenheads will be on the itinerary every time I come to Edinburgh. Thank you for a warm welcome and a great visit.

We went in twice and had a great experience both times. The first time we went in we wanted a small bottle to enjoy a wee dram in the evenings. We told the staff member what we liked and taste notes we didn’t care for. We tasted a couple different Whisky’s and settled on a small bottle. We went back another night and were helped by another staff member. Very knowledgeable and picked some different Whisky’s for us to sample. We purchased two bottles.

The staff was very friendly and quite helpful in our whisky tasting experience. I especially appreciated the ability to get small format of single barrel whisky.

As a starter let me say that I'm not a whisky lover. This being said I do like a taste once in a while. In our previous trip in the UK we used to buy a bottle at the airport of the well known be brand. We did stop at a few whisky stores along the Royal Mile and were somewhat disappointed. So I reluctantly enter Cadenhead's. After explaining what I tasted and usually buys they recommended a few selections and he offered us to taste them (straight or with water). All in all it was a brilliant experience. Highly recommended.
