Hausbar

It’s more of an old-school speakeasy than a bar, but however you wish to label it, Bristol’s Hausbar is one of the city’s coolest nightspots. Located beneath an Indian restaurant on Upper Belgrave Road, this laid-back, independently-owned venue is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail with your best bud or other half. It also offers table service, a nice touch which seems to be more of an exception than a rule in cocktail bars nowadays. The brainchild of Aurelius Braunbarth, a veteran of some of Europe’s best watering holes, Hausbar is a dimly-lit space characterised by vintage decor and a welcoming, intimate atmosphere. There is a long, elegant bar surrounded by lounges and booth seating and walls are painted in a rather eye-catching khaki green. They’re also festooned with original works of art, including a painting of a rather demented looking teddy bear. Grab a seat and let a member of staff run you through the extensive cocktail list, which is replete with both signature creations and daring innovations. The service is never short of exceptional, while the mixologists’ knowledge is second-to-none. Care for a libation that’s not on the menu? If they’ve got the ingredients, they’ll make and shake it at your behest.
