Ask any of Edinburgh’s seasoned diners to list their favourite local restaurants and you can be pretty sure that the name of the Mussel Inn will crop up. Rose Street is undoubtedly one of the busiest streets within the city’s busy centre, and it is here that you will observe the Mussel Inn’s regulars enjoying al fresco dining whenever the weather permits. Seafood is the word on everyone’s lips here, and for good reason. Crustaceans and shellfish are a house speciality, served up with as much raw flavour and as little tinkering as possible. It’s the best way to taste the many subtleties of Scotland’s natural oceanic larder. While anyone with a penchant for salty oysters washed down with a dash of rock salt and lemon isn’t going to leave disappointed, not everything here was landed upon a pier. The Mussel Inn also serves up a wide selection of salads, pasta dishes and vegetarian options. Let’s not forget the sweets either, which probably merit a paragraph in their own right. While food is at the forefront of everything the Mussel Inn does, this doesn’t come at the expense of service, with hospitality every bit as pleasing as the menu.

Had heard of good reviews for this seafood restaurant, and hence came here for dinner. Ordered the seafood chowder, poached salmon fillet which was the day's special, and a pot of mussels cooked in white wine, onions, shallots and cream. The chowder was flavourful, but the poached salmon fillet was a tad disappointing as it was a little too dry. The mussels were indeed the crowning glory of the restaurant, and were very fresh and tasty. Recommended to make reservations as the place fills up fast!
Very very tasty mussels at a reasonable price that I can only recommend. Can recommend the white wine sauce or blue cheese sauce to go with the mussels. The staff is super friendly and it is a cosy, casual atmosphere at the restaurant.
Nice little seafood restaurant but it's too small and it's always cold inside. The mussles & scollops are delicious but they don't do 'simple' fish.
We went for a lunch at Mussel Inn. It was excellent. I love the oyster (both grilled and natural) so much. The quality is good and the price is not so high. We four people spent about 70 pounds. My only suggestion is that it would be better if the restaurant is more spacious.
