Jam Jar

Jam Jar is a popular Bridge Of Allan cafe and restaurant whose reputation extends far beyond the confines of the small town. A lot of thought has gone into this cosy restaurant, from the decor right down to the design of the menu. Wooden floors and a large wood-burning stove give the restaurant a cosy, homely feel, while slate and tweed are deployed to good effect. The menu is based around a small but inventive selection of dishes, with Jam Jar’s pizzas growing in popularity as word-of-mouth spreads. Elsewhere, the menu features hearty comfort food, with main dishes accompanied by bacon, mash and wilted greens. Sauces and preserves are served in dainty jars, in keeping with the restaurant’s name. Portion sizes are generous and service is efficient and polite as you would expect, though it’s surprising how many establishments struggle to master these basic requisites. Classic dishes are given a twist, while Jam Jar’s own creations include a light but satisfying crab and lemon risotto and a prawn chilli linguini. Fish and seafood are a speciality; look out for pan-roasted cod and monkfish, both of which are tenderly cooked to preserve all of their flavour. At lunchtimes, Jam Jar offers a selection of soups and sandwiches which are presented with enough panache to distinguish them from run-of-the-mill efforts: the steak sandwich is particularly satisfying, best ordered medium rare. One of the brightest and tastiest dining spots in Bridge of Allan, Jam Jar hits the spot.
