Sometimes, only Mexican food will do. The notion will seize you in its vice-like grip and the itch will demand to be scratched. On such occasions, make a beeline for Savina. Having opened its doors in late 2006, the cantina has carved out a reputation as Liverpool’s premier Mexican restaurant. The characterful eatery is located on Duke Street, where it serves sizzling fare in a relaxed setting distinguished by leather-backed chairs, mini chandeliers and the odd stray sombrero! The mouthwatering menu features authentic ingredients sourced from throughout Mexico as well as the finest local produce. Savina offers excellent value for money, with its two-course weekday lunch menu priced at less than a tenner and available from midday till 2:30pm. There’s also an early bird ‘Temprano’ menu, available Sunday to Friday before 7pm (and before 5pm on Saturdays) which is less than £15 for two courses. As for the dishes, you can expect all the usual favourites: nachos, fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, Tex Mex burgers and gourmet burritos galore.
