The Grand Ole Opry is a venue like no other in Glasgow. Located just along the road from Ibrox Stadium, the illuminated signage above the entranceway, like that of the Barrowland, is suggestive of the fun to be had within. A country and western venue with a charm all its own, the Opry is the venue of choice for those whose idea of a ‘night on the town’ involves Stetsons, double denim and elaborate calf-length cowboy boots. Come to think of it, this is probably Glasgow’s most unpretentious venue. There’s live music every Friday and Saturday night, but that’s not all: there’s also bingo, a Western-style shoot-out and a raffle. Factor in the cheapness of the drinks (£20 will take you far) and you have all the ingredients needed for a rootin’ tootin’ night on the tiles. The club itself has a seating capacity of 450, split across three levels, two dance floors, a characterful Saloon Bar and a Chuck Wagon eatery for the famished. Can’t make it to Texas? Then bring Texas to you.
