Springbank Distillery

Campbeltown was once considered the whisky capital of the world - no mean feat for what’s actually quite a small place. It’s here that Springbank Distillery, on the site of a once illicit still. has its home. It’s a romantic setting, lying by the coast in the west of Scotland. Steeped in history dating all the way back to 1828, both the interior and exterior of the buildings have a story to tell, as do the tour guides! Here you can see what’s involved in every step of the whisky making process, taste the finished article and take home some liquid momentos. This distillery has the unique position of being the only one in Scotland to complete 100% of the processes involved in production on site. If you want to take your whisky knowledge or involvement that bit further, you could become a lifetime member of the Springbank Society, or even enrol in the Springbank Whisky School, taking five days to fully immerse yourself in the experience of creating and understanding Scotland’s signature spirit.

This was a terrific tour lasting an hour and 15 minutes and was absolutely fascinating. Our guide, Joyce, was funny and knowledgeable, a great combination. This is a small and specialised distillery, using traditional methods and producing a small but delicious range of malt whiskies. We got a dram at the end, and got to keep the glass, as well as a miniature to take home. All this for £12. Excellent value. Highly recommended!

Springbank is a dram I'd never tried, but it's quite different to many others. The operation is a small family, not swallowed up by the big boys. The tour is quite different to others. They do the malting and bottling onsite and store the whisky there too. A unique tour and a very good range of products. The onsite hand pours allow you to buy nice sample bottles and it's worth picking up a couple of bottles in the shop, you won't find them in Tesco's. Best distillery tour I've ever done.
