The Grapes Village Pub (PG Taverns)

The Grapes is a characterful, dog-friendly pub and bistro in Edinburgh’s East Calder, established in 1895. Notable for its prepossessing decor, the newly-refurbished Grapes has a pleasant cosy vibe and a great mix of customers, with friendly staff on hand to help slake your thirst or sate your hunger. Tackling the former first of all, the bar has an impressive gantry and an extensive gin menu for those who want to sip Edinburgh gin in an Edinburgh pub. There’s also a healthy selection of lagers, real ales and ciders on draught, with a decent mix of whiskies including Highland, Speyside and Islay options. Several large TV screens, meanwhile, invariably play sports such as football and rugby. As for grub, the 2017 Certificate of Excellent should indicate what you’re getting and that’s quality. British bistro pub fare is the order of the day: steak and Guinness pie, fish and chips, pork fillet, etc. The Grapes is open from 11am till midnight on Thursdays, from 11am till 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 11-11 Monday- Wednesday and Sunday.
