The Citadel is South Ayrshire’s main sports and entertainment centre. The large leisure centre houses a swimming pool and modern gymnasium plus a sports hall that hosts team-based games and fitness classes. There are also two glass-backed squash courts. The Citadel serves as a hub around which Ayrshire families can socialise and stay fit. Adult and child swimming lessons are available, while pre-school classes enable four-year-olds to learn the basics in a safe environment. At Genesis Gymnasia, housed within the Citadel, classes include studio cycling, aerobics and Aqua Trim, which is a popular water-based Zumba class. For increasing definition and improving cardiovascular fitness, the boot camp and body camp classes are ideal. In total, over a dozen different fitness classes are available for both sexes; the gym is also equipped with resistance equipment for working all the major muscle groups. Citadel membership packages are provided on an annual or monthly basis, with the Ultra option including use of the sauna, gym and pool. The leisure centre has three pools, its prime one being a 25-metre six-lane pool, overlooked by a large spectator area. From swimming to fitness, the Citadel’s got it all under one roof.

Whilst they say you get what you pay for, the refurb in the gym brings it up a notch. I go there and see people actually wanting to train and keep fit. Ive been at other gyms, and the atmosphere in the citadel is a working mans gym. Other places are either over priced, or full of posers.
