Buchanan is a lively bistro
housed in Woodend Barn at
Banchory. The gently sloping
building, with its wooden
panels and large windows,
is a relaxing spot in which to
enjoy an afternoon tea while
the sun streams through the
glass, warming the bistro.
During the summer months,
the best dining spot is outside
on the terrace however, where
al fresco dining can be enjoyed
for as long as the weather stays
fair. Buchanan Bistro is open
from 9am every day, serving a
selection of cakes, bakes and
drinks. When lunchtime rolls
around, tasting plates, platters
and light meals are available.
During the evenings, a dinner
and pre-concert menu is packed
with inventive fare, with the latest
arrival set at 7.30pm Tuesday to
Thursday and 8pm on Friday
and Saturday. In the mornings,
the bistro is filled with the scent
of freshly-brewed coffee and
newly-baked bread. It’s not
just bread that’s made on the
premises though – Buchanan
Bistro also brews its own beer.
Food boards are available
loaded with Loch Fyne smoked
salmon, gravadlax, smoked
mussels and seaweed salsa.
Children’s boards with simpler
fare are also available alongside
thick organic soup served with
sourdough bread. Afterwards, a
range of sweet treats – all made
on site of course – includes
almond and pistachio tart and
frozen damson parfait.
