Braemar Castle
Nestled deep in the Cairngorms is Braemar Castle,
an historic attraction that looks like something
you’d see on a luxury shortbread tin at Christmas.
Dating back to 1628, the castle lies next to the
River Dee flanked by the dramatic mountainscape
of the national parkland. Groups, school trips,
events and individual visits are all well catered for
and the castle is open for tours during the clement
months of April through to October. Available for
hire and as a film location, it’s a magical choice
for your wedding, sure to impress your guests,
and makes for an unusual venue for corporate
events. Braemar Castle also holds its own events
and exhibitions, open to the public. For pupils and
teachers, learning materials that run alongside the
curriculum are available, making the visit both fun
and educational. Whether young or old, this iconic
Highland castle provides a great day out for all.
EASTER AQUHORTHIES
STONE CIRCLE
1m West of Inverurie on the A96
Easter Aquhorthies Stone Circle
One mile west of Inverurie lies Easter Aquhorthies
Stone Circle, a mysterious and unique site
erected over 4,000 years ago. This specific type
of monument is only found in the North-East of
Scotland and is made up of well preserved large
stones lying in formation. Mostly pink coloured,
some are red and some are grey but all originate
from the local area. Nobody knows the reason for
the stone circle’s creation, but experts believe that
they could’ve been connected to ancient rituals or
used to follow the changing seasons. Well off the
beaten track, you’ll find the location off the A96
between Inverurie and Pitcaple, it’s completely
free to access and open all year round. So whether
viewed through the mists and frosts of winter, or
during the dancing light of a summer sunset, there’s
certainly a mystical fascination to be found here at
the Easter Aquhorthies Stone Circle.
