Saigon Saigon is one of Edinburgh’s hottest
Chinese restaurants, located just a short walk
from Princes St. in Edinburgh’s trendy New Town
area. The interior of the restaurant is bright and
welcoming, which is a pleasant surprise given
an overwhelming tendency for most Chinese
restaurants to be just a little on the dark side.
It’s a perfect venue for both formal and casual
dining, feeling friendly and yet relaxed. The
restaurant staff are nothing short of lovely, and
service is always prompt. All dishes are priced
very reasonably, and you’ll see all your favourites
on the menu, from sweet and sour chicken to
Szechuan pork. The restaurant also caters for
veggies, so specialist dietary requirements
shouldn’t prove to be a problem. All in all, if you’re
in Edinburgh and fancy a spot of Chinese that’s a
step above the norm, head to Saigon Saigon and
you won’t be disappointed.
NOK KITCHEN
Nok Kitchen is close to the top of the Royal Mile,
and was formally known as Thai Orchid. The
dishes at Nok Kitchen feature a mouth-watering
array of the best Thai cooking has to offer. A special
mention to the Gaeng Massaman which is a slow
cooked meat dish that comes in chicken, beef or
lamb varieties. There is also plenty of seafood
options to mull over at the Nok Kitchen including a
scallops and chilli dish, and the excitingly names
‘Seafood Volcano; which features mixed seafood
in a spicy sauce not for the fainthearted. Nok
Kitchen also has a big variety of signature dishes
such as the ‘Nutty Curry’, Meat marinated with
honey, lemongrass and coriander root, grilled and
topped with a nutty sauce served with potatoes,
crispy shallots and cashew nuts. Thai dining isn’t
known for its desserts, but Nok has a few treats
up its sleeve including a sticky rice dish cooked
in coconut milk.
