This 14th-century castle, located just outside
Arncroach in Fife, is finely decorated with intricate
plaster ceilings and painted panelling. There’s
also furniture designed by Sir Robert Lorimer
and a mural by Phoebe Anna Traquair. While the
inside of Kellie Castle is stunning, many visitors
flock here for the sprawling gardens and grounds.
The Castle provides a popular day out for families,
with quizzes and treasure hunts held to entertain
the little ones. The garden and estate are open
year-round, while the castle and shop are open
from late March till late October. After exploring
the castle, head to the tearoom for a well-earned
brew and a casual browse of the gift store. While
the castle itself is worth seeing, there is also the
lure of various events that take place throughout
the year. Expect everything from photographic
competitions and Halloween storytelling through
to culinary shows held at Kellie Kitchen Cafe.

Scone Palace is a historic house in Scone,
Perthshire. Constructed in 1808 from the remains
of a 16th century palace, the Palace is a beautiful,
elegant testament to Scotland’s rich history, and
offers an insight into the daily lives of the wealthy
upper-classes in Scotland over 200 years ago. The
palace is built from red sandstone and boasts a
castellated roof. Today, it is regarded as a classic
example of the late Georgian Gothic style of
architecture. Currently, Scone Palace is home to
the Earls of Mansfield, and attracts visitors from
all over the world. Visitors to the site can explore
the sprawling rooms of the house, discover
unusual plants in the extensive gardens, and pick
up souvenirs and gift items in the shop. A visit to
Scone Palace is an experience for the whole family,
with many children’s activities offered at the Palace
including an adventure playground and a maze.
